There will be a night swim at Bellevue Pool on August 19, 2012 from 7-9pm to benefit the Bellevue Elementary 6th grade field trip to Washington DC. Everyone is invited to attend. The cost is $3 per person.
The Allegheny County Health Department is holding a public meeting on Wednesday, April 4th, from 6:00pm-7:30pm at the Bellevue Borough Building to discuss local air quality and the Shenango Coke Works on Neville Island. All “public education stakeholders” (ie residents, parents, PTO members, teachers, school board members, etc…) are invited to attend this important forum on Thursday, April 12th, at 7:00pm. The purpose of this forum is to discuss the impact of the newly proposed Pennsylvania State budget, which includes an additional $94 million in cuts from public eduction. Several state legislators from Allegheny County and a number of education experts will be present. State Representatives and Senators representing surrounding school districts have also been invited to attend in order to discuss their positions on public education.
The forum is being held at North Hills Senior High School, located at 53 Rochester Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15229. See the attached “Allegheny Forum Flyer” at the end of this post for more information.

Make reservations now for Breakfast with the Easter Bunny on March 31st. The event runs from 9am to 11:00am and will take place at the Bellevue Elementary Gym. In addition to breakfast, there will be Easter themed games and crafts, and your child can have his/her picture taken with the Easter Bunny! Another Bellevue Park Trail Workday has been scheduled for Saturday, March 10th from 9am-11:30am. Tasks are bench cutting, and building switchbacks. Also clearing the fallen trees from the timbering and garbage cleanup. Volunteers will meet at the tennis courts. Tools are provided, though we could use a rototiller and chainsaw. (Experienced users only!)
Bring your own sturdy work gear, and water and snacks. If you are late, we will be working below and west of the tennis courts.

Last November, AARP and the Walkable and Living Communities Institute hosted an Active Living Workshop and walking audit of the Bellevue and Avalon communities. The final report from this workshop is attached below. Participants from the workshop and any interested community members are encouraged to reconvene on March 22nd to discuss options for moving forward with ideas and concepts from the report. In an attempt to reach as many people as possible, there will be two meeting opportunities:
The first meeting time is March 22nd from 10am-11am.
The second meeting time is March 22nd from 6pm-7pm.

Make plans to attend Bellevue Elementary’s “Minute to Win It” contest this Thursday, Feb. 23, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Admissions is $3.00 for ages 13 and up, $1.00 for children ages 5-12, and children under 4 are free. The contest will be held in the Bellevue Elementary School gym. There will be a Chinese Auction, 50/50 Raffle, and plenty of hot dogs, baked goods and other snacks and drinks for sale. For $1.00, kids will be able to enter a drawing to win the chance to play a “Minute to Win It” game against the contestant of their choice. This is sure to be a fun night for the family!
